OUSD Pride is a working group of parents, caregivers, and allies of the LGBTQ+ community within Oakland Unified School District. We:
- Proactively and vocally oppose discriminatory policies and rhetoric that impact the LGBTQ+ community, including transgender and nonbinary teachers, staff, students, and parents who are vital members within the OUSD community
- Seek assurance that all kids will be guaranteed an equal opportunity to learn in safe, welcoming classrooms that acknowledge and celebrate diversity
- Are dedicated to advocacy work that advances inclusive learning environments across all grade levels and schools within Oakland Unified
- Respect the privacy of our members
What do we do?
- Regular meetings with OUSD Health & Wellness staff about LGBTQ+ family concerns
- Outreach to OUSD School Board members
- Clarifying policies on bullying, discrimination, bathrooms, athletics, and name changes
- Understanding how curriculum and professional development addresses LGBTQ+ topics
- Identifying support systems for LGBTQ+ students
